Medioevo latino. Metodologie e tecniche bibliografiche

Firenze, via Montebello 7, 22-27 settembre 2014

Il Corso, volto a favorire ricerche e studi di Filologia e Storia della Letteratura Latina del Medioevo, con particolare attenzione a quelle che prevedano l’applicazione dell’informatica, nasce con l'intento di fornire una formazione in ambito bibliografico (repertori, bibliografie, cataloghi, strumenti di lavoro) ai collaboratori di «Medioevo latino» e delle redazioni ad esso connesse.

Secondo una consuetudine consolidata, il Corso è aperto a tutti coloro, italiani o stranieri, che avessero interesse per gli argomenti trattati e la corrispondente problematica storica e teorica. Sono tuttavia suo oggetto privilegiato i problemi riguardanti l'applicazione delle tecniche informatiche agli studi sul medioevo, dalle banche-dati, di autori e manoscritti, alle edizioni elettroniche di testi; una parte importante della sua offerta formativa consiste in attività di tirocinio.

Per queste caratteristiche, il Corso costituisce una via d’accesso, o comunque un titolo preferenziale, per la collaborazione alle redazioni per la ricerca di base della S.I.S.M.E.L., in particolare Medioevo latino (MEL) e Compendium Auctorum Latinorum Medii Aevi (CALMA).

Didattica e Contenuti
Le linee direttrici del Corso sono tre: la formazione all'utilizzo delle banche-dati che gestiscono le ricerche della S.I.S.M.E.L.; la formazione generale attraverso una serie di lezioni frontali su aspetti della cultura medievale e sugli sviluppi degli studi medievistici in relazione all'informatica (informatica umanistica); la presentazione di alcuni progetti di ricerca specifici che possano illustrare, nella pratica, l'evolversi degli studi, da un lato, e delle tecnologie dall'altro.

Il progetto formativo prevede 20 ore di attività didattica frontale e 20 ore di tirocinio con esercitazione didattica. Per il dettaglio sul calendario delle attività si veda il programma allegato.

Partecipanti e Contributi
Per l’anno 2014 verranno ammessi al Corso un massimo di 20 partecipanti. 10 posti saranno riservati ai collaboratori delle redazioni italiane e straniere, di MEL e CALMA. Sono previste tre tipologie di allievi: A) Collaboratori della S.I.S.M.E.L., per i quali la partecipazione è gratuita. B) Fino a 4 allievi beneficiari di rimborsi spese per un massimo di 300,00 € ciascuno previa presentazione di adeguata documentazione. C) Allievi non beneficiari di rimborso, per i quali è previsto il pagamento di una quota di partecipazione di 300,00 € per il sostenimento delle spese previste per il Corso (materiale didattico, attrezzatura tecnologica, servizi di segreteria). Tale somma dovrà essere corrisposta il giorno di inizio del Corso. L’ammissione al Corso e la tipologia saranno stabilite da una commissione istituita dal Presidente della S.I.S.M.E.L. sulla base del curriculum e della bibliografia che ciascun candidato allegherà alla domanda. La frequenza è obbligatoria per tutta la durata del Corso.

Modalità di Partecipazione
Per partecipare è necessario inviare il modulo di domanda allegato, corredato da curriculum vitae e bibliografia e da una lettera di presentazione di uno studioso noto nell’ambito della mediolatinistica, alla Società Internazionale per lo Studio del Medioevo Latino - Presidente Prof. Agostino Paravicini Bagliani. The TRAME Fellowship for a backend developer, specialising in information retrieval funded by the Zeno Karl Schindler Foundation has been established to support the development of the TRAME project maintained by FEF and SISMEL. The grant will allow to spend a period of twelve months in Florence seeking the development agenda of the TRAME project, with a monthly stipend of 2,500 Swiss francs (CHF).

Applications will then be submitted to the ZKS TRAME Fellowship Scientific Committee for evaluation. The results of the evaluation procedure will be published by November 30, 2014.

Winners will be given the opportunity to start the fellowship from the beginning of January, 2015.

TRAME Fellowship candidates profile
The duties of this position are to be the principal designer, developer and tester for the TRAME semantic metasearch component. This is a highly exciting opportunity to apply semantic web technologies in the exploration of fundamental research questions in the area of mediaeval latin manuscripts, working with a vibrant international community of scholars. Located in the historic premises of the SISMEL in the heart of Florence, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to demonstrate technica skills in a rich environment of evolving scholarship.

TRAME is part of a large international network involving major Cultural Heritage Institutions across EU and USA, including Libraries, Universities and Research Centers, focusing on the study of medieval culture (with a strong focus on medieval authors, manuscripts and texts). The aim of TRAME is to foster digital resources discoverability and allowing access to scientific information in the medieval digital ecosystem. TRAME is also one of the main building blocks of the Virtual Center for Medieval Studies designed by COST Action IS1005: Medieval Cultures and Technological Resources (www.medioevoeuropeo.org).

This position will also include the opportunity to liaise with and collaborate with international technical projects at EU level, including the CENDARI EU (www.cendari.eu) infrastructure project, the COST Action, and other future engagements.

This position would particularly benefit a developer with an interest in humanities research and in solving real-world problems with an enthusiastic and interested

community of users.

Core technical skills:

• Intermediate to Advanced proficiency developing in Java
• Experience in Software development, ideally in an academic context
• experience of the deployment and integration of search/information retrieval systems
• understanding of semantic web technologies (RDF, SKOS, Linked Data)
• Excellent written and oral English

Desirable skills:

• Scripting languages (especially PHP)
• Linux systems administation and general DevOps
• Project management skills
• Agile Software development Experience (XP, SCRUM, etc)
• Knowledge of test-driven development approaches

Previous experience working with digital humanities projects would be an advantage.

Knowledge of Italian is not required, but would be an advantage.

Regolamento della Biblioteca

Al termine di un complesso lavoro di migrazione, il catalogo della biblioteca è stato integrato con quelli dell’Accademia della Crusca e dell’Ateneo fiorentino ed è ora consultabile sull’OPAC dell’Università di Firenze. A partire dai prossimi giorni  avrà inizio la catalogazione (e visualizzazione) delle accessioni correnti  anche nell'OPAC del Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale (SBN), primo passo verso il riversamento completo di tutto il catalogo nell'archivio bibliografico di SBN, previsto a partire dalla fine del 2014.

TRAME Fellowship candidates profiles

TRAME is a software platform developed by the FEF and SISMEL Digital Humanities Dept.,following an already existing scientific and technological development roadmap. In order to makethe system grow and meet the requirements of the COST - VCMS and H2020 challenges we arelooking to extend the existing team., by hiring:

• Junior developers, mostly working on step 3 and 4 of the document Evolving the TRAMEsystem towards Horizon2020 and VCMS challenges, to develop the TRAME applicationtowards semantic technologies;
• Digital Humanist, mostly working on step 1 and 2 of the document Evolving the TRAMEsystem towards Horizon2020 and VCMS challenges, to develop the TRAME applicationtowards integrating new sites and tools (authority lists, etc.);

We are looking for candidates already familiar on working on the border betweeninformation and communication technology and humanities studies, to focus on the development ofthe TRAME application according to the agenda described in the document Evolving the TRAMEsystem towards Horizon2020 and VCMS challenges.

Open positions:

1. Junior developers with a thorough knowledge in the areas of:

• semantic Web technologies (RDF, SKOS, LOD)
• semantic Repositories management and SPARQL
• java development

and a good familiarity with:

• scripting languages (PHP, Python, etc.)
• Linux systems, shell scripting
• server technologies

Applicants for this position should present a documented experience in the abovetechnologies and may have a background in humanities studies.
