A che serve la letteratura? A questa brutta domanda, tutti noi possiamo rispondere che la letteratura esprime identità e l’identità a cui subito si pensa è quella dell’autore e dei lettori che con lui instaurano un dialogo. Eppure, i testi sono anche decisi nella costruzione dell’identità dei luoghi. Per il Medioevo, il tempo in cui anonimato, pluralità delle redazioni dei testi, plurilinguismo hanno avuto così grande importanza, la capacità dei testi di costituire identità di luogo è decisiva. Un autore che scrive in un certo luogo e in un certo tempo, di quali testi poteva disporre? Un autore che si muove quali movimenti testuali provoca e con questi movimenti quale stile di scuola genera? Un testo in quali luoghi comincia a piacere? La risposta a domande come queste la storiografia le ha sempre poste, ma esse hanno richiesto anni di studi e ancora li richiederanno, ma la disponibilità di banche dati di autori, testi e manoscritti offre agli specialisti non la possibilità di costruire automaticamente risposte adeguate, ma la produzione di dossier informativi, che possono contribuire a stabilire il canone della ricerca. L’impiego nella ricerca scientifica di banche dati per rispondere a domande di geografia culturale è certamente agli inizi e si può essere scettici a proposito delle banche dati che pretendono di rispondere a domande che richiedono studi meticolosi e censimenti completi. Tuttavia la SISMEL ha voluto sperimentare su un territorio culturale definito (quello della cultura Camaldolese nei secoli XII-XVI), un prototipo di Atlante che sia effettivamente utile per la costruzione di un Atlante della cultura mediolatina. In una fase abbastanza avanzata dei lavori realizzati per questo, la tavola rotonda che coinvolge le persone che hanno effettivamente collaborato all’impresa, serve a fare il punto dei lavori.

Presentazione del volume
La vicenda di Fozio, con la sua deposizione nel quarto concilio di Costantinopoli, ottavo ecumenico (869-870), e la riabilitazione dieci anni più tardi, rappresenta esemplarmente la complessità dei rapporti tra la Chiesa latina e le Chiese d'Oriente nell'alto medioevo. Gli atti - pervenuti in greco soltanto per riassunto - sono tramandati integralmente nella coeva traduzione latina di Anastasio, bibliotecario della Sede apostolica e intermediario dei rapporti ecclesiastici e culturali tra Roma e Bisanzio. La presente edizione si fonda principalmente sul manoscritto predisposto dagli amanuensi dello stesso Anastasio, che poi vi inserirono le correzioni da lui ordinate. Il confronto tra le due redazioni permette di seguire le fasi del lavoro del traduttore e la scrupolosa revisione cui egli sottopose la propria opera.
